Spring 2026 Reminders, Links, and News

Following a restful break, our semester unfortunately began under unsettling circumstances. I am grateful that no one was injured and for the cooperation between the Colorado Springs Police Department and Campus Safety. This cooperation allowed the suspect to be identified and apprehended within the day. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigated this dynamic situation.
As we move into the Spring 2026 semester, I want to take this opportunity to share some reminders and news from the Academic Affairs Division.
Leadership Update: Jessi Smith, VP for Research

It is with mixed emotions and immense gratitude that I share the news that Dr. Jessi Smith, Vice Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, has accepted a new position as the Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs and Development at California State University, Dominguez Hills. Her resignation is effective January 20, 2026. Dr. Hillary Fouts, the acting VP for Research while Dr. Smith has been on loan to the National Science Foundation as a rotating program director, will continue in her role as interim to ensure continuity and support for this important area.

End of Fall 2025, Thank You from the Provost

Thank you: Let me begin this end of semester communication with a sincere thank you from my administrative office. Thank you for the continued effort you give to create a fulfilling and valuable experience for our students, our colleagues, and our community amid changes in staffing, funding, and structure.
As you finish your final grading and wrap up your 2025 projects, I want to share a few updates on how we plan to move forward, together, into the new year.

The Office of Faculty Affairs has progressed with the appointment of Dr. Emily Skop as Interim Vice Provost & Associate Vice Chancellor to fill our immediate commitments to faculty success, compliance in the tenure, grievance, and sabbatical processes, and strategic initiatives related to faculty recruitment, development and retention.
