About
L. Lynn Vidler, Ph.D. (they/them) is a graduate of New York University (BA ’92) and the University of California, Irvine (MA ’95, Ph.D. ’02). As a scholar, their primary research focuses on the literature of early-modern Spain with special attention on approaches to the study of staging practices of 17th-century drama. Their book, Performance Reconstruction and Spanish Golden Age Drama: Reviving and Revising the Comedia (Palgrave 2014), problematizes the study of early modern staging practices and develops new theoretical models for such study and was declared “a manifesto for the field” by Shakespeare Bulletin (Vol. 33:4, Winter 2015). Dr. Vidler has also published work in Bulletin of the Comediantes, Comedia Performance, Early Theatre, Assessment Update, Innovative Higher Education and other outlets. Dr. Vidler’s secondary research focus is leadership development and the scholarship of academic administration. Their upcoming volume, Developing Deans: Transforming Academic Leadership, is currently under contract with Vernon Press.
In addition to their administrative role, Dr. Vidler co-directs campus leadership development efforts through UCCS’s Higher Learning Commission Quality Initiative on Leadership Development and co-chairs CU’s Strategic Planning Committee. They have provided leadership on various national and community boards including the Council of Colleges of Arts & Sciences, the Association for Hispanic Classical Theater, the Pikes Peak Workforce Development Board, the Bee Vradenburg Foundation and the Unity Project. Dr. Vidler previously served as Dean of the College of Letters, Arts & Sciences at UCCS, Program Director of Spanish and Associate Dean at the United States Military Academy, and Chair of Modern Languages and Linguistics and Associate Dean at the University of South Dakota.
